Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG) Program

About FOG.

Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Program GraphicFOG stands for Fats, Oils, and Grease. This means any material, either liquid or solid, composed of fats, oils, or grease from an animal or vegetable source. When discharged into the sanitary sewer system, FOG builds up on pipe walls and blocks flow, causing wastewater to back up and flow out of manholes, or even back into homes and businesses. This is Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO). It requires costly clean up and may be hazardous to human health and the environment.

The FOG Program was created to address the issue on a regional level and educate Food Service Establishment (FSE) owners and employees on preventable FOG related SSOs.

FOG Program Overview
